Phantom Space, a rising commercial launch provider and satellite manufacturer, has forged a strategic partnership with Ubotica Technologies to integrate advanced artificial intelligence processing capabilities directly into low Earth orbit. The collaboration aims to power Phantom Space’s upcoming “Phantom Cloud” satellite constellation, enabling real-time, on-orbit data analysis to solve the commercial space sector’s escalating bandwidth bottlenecks.
As Earth observation and sensing technologies advance, the volume of data gathered in space is expanding exponentially. High-resolution cameras, radar systems, and hyperspectral sensors capture terabytes of raw information daily.
However, the radio frequency bandwidth available to transmit this raw data back to terrestrial ground stations remains severely constrained and highly expensive. This downlink bottleneck creates significant latency, delaying critical intelligence for end-users on Earth.
Consequently, aerospace companies are increasingly shifting toward edge computing. Operators are seeking to process and analyze raw data directly on the spacecraft, transmitting only the actionable insights back to the ground.
Building the Phantom Cloud
Phantom Space intends to capitalize on this data-driven shift through its planned in-house satellite constellation, dubbed Phantom Cloud. The network is designed to function as a series of interconnected orbital data centers.
